Barrows of Boyndie, barrows & enclosures 700m SW of Mill of Boyndie.
These are high up on the south side of the main road west from Banff as you approach Ladysbridge. They have been ploughed over, so are best seen from the air as cropmarks, a puzzling cluster of round and square outlines. It is quite likely they are from different periods, all more than three thousand years ago (1000BC). The archaeologists suggest the square shapes were barrows, that is burial mounds, whereas the round buildings were evidence of settlements.
