DEDICATED TO THE CHURCH OF BOYNDIE BE IAMES
OGILVIE OF CULPHIN 1720
Height: 147mm; Diameter: 120mm
This style of communion beaker is based on Dutch, Baltic and Scandinavian protoypes. This geographical distribution is a legacy of trade patterns in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, when there was a more regular communication between Aberdeen and the Low Countries than with Edinburgh or London. The beaker is one of a pair commissioned by James Ogilvie of Culphin who had been an elder of Boyndie parish kirk since 1677.
