This large metal lock came from Banff Gaol, which was built in 1844 and located on Reidhaven Street, in Seatown. After 1878 it changed from its role as a prison to a holding gaol for the area with prisoners being transferred to Elgin. It shut in the 1950s and was later demolished although evidence of the old building can still be seen.
Donated by the family of the late Leslie A. Anderson.
