This bell, inscribed Burgh of Banff 1770, came from the Old Tolbooth (built in 1710 and demolished in 1801). There would have been an older one before that. A tolbooth was the original Town House for the Burgh. All official business of the town was done in this building. This stood at the corner of Low Street at the bottom of Strait Path opposite the Steeple.

Bells were very expensive and note how this bell has been repaired to avoid further cost. This bell weighs over six stone.
