William Duff, 1st Earl of Fife (1697 – 1763). Framed pencil and wash sketch by James Ferguson. William Duff of Braco and Dipple was M.P. for the County of Banff 1727-34. He purchased considerable estates in Aberdeenshire, Banffshire and Moray, and built Duff House between 1735 and 1740. He was created Lord Braco in 1735 and Earl of Fife in 1759. By his first wife, Janet, daughter of James, Earl of Findlater, he had no family, but his second wife, Jean, daughter of Sir James Grant of Grant, gave him 7 boys and 7 girls. height: Image 7.0 cm width: Image 5.0 cm height: Frame 15.1 cm width: Frame 12.8 cm.
