This is a model of a Zulu fishing boat which was built by John Slater in 1888 on the shore between Scotstown and the Links at an area known then as Elf Kirk. According to an extract from the Stornoway Fishing Boats Register the first Helen Slater weighed eight tons and had a keel length of 24 feet and 6 inches. Originally she was rigged with a foresail and jib and jigger but one mast was later removed. She went to the great line and lobster fishing off the West Coast but was wrecked on 27th November 1923.There is no trace of her ever having been registered at Banff.
