Dirk, late 17th century

Return to Collection page

This dirk is very early in date (probably 1680s) and has an interesting provenance, having found its way to northern Canada, possibly during the Clearances. The carved wooden hilt has a metal disc on the pommel to protect it, retained by a screw nut. Metal bands protect the haunches. The sheath, of which only half has survived, is leather.
