(Top) The wooden hilt is beautifully carved to resemble intersecting threads called interlace. The pommel has a protective brass disc on the end surmounted by a cap. Brass bands protect the haunches extending up the side of the handle. The sheath, fully intact, is leather.
(Bottom) This dirk has a shallow knot decoration on the pommel and well defined haunches. It could predate the Battle of Culloden (1745) but most likely dates from c1780-1790. Note the unusual feature of small holes on the blade.
